Pumpkin Patch

This morning we headed to the Grand Ole Pumpkin Patch in Clanton. It was our first trip there without a stroller or wagon!! The boys are at such a fun age. (I did miss the stroller since we could put all the pumpkins and stuff in it!) We took a hayride to the pumpkin patch and picked out 3 pumpkins. Then the boys took a ride on the "twactor train". After that, they headed over to play on the inflatables. It was fun but hot! 92 degrees! Come on fall - where are you?

This week Bou turned 40!! and Davis lost his 2 front teeth! He can truly sing "All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth" He looks so silly, cute but silly. It's also changed his speech which is just funny.

Bou loves ice cream cakes so Davis and I picked him up an oreo one. We had a nice family dinner and birthday celebration.

Trip to Altanta

This weekend we headed to Atlanta to visit Rob, Sara, Jack and Molly(their dog). We had a great trip! I'm so glad we went as I start back to work on Tuesday. (yikes!) I put together a video of some of our pictures and videos from our visit. While we were there, we visited the Aquarium and Centennnial Park. For some reason, I have no pictures of Sara - sorry, Aunt Sara.

Davis clung to Uncle Rob especially at the aquarium. It's no telling how many times he said "uncle rob". Davis and Grayson loved trying to tickle Jack. They also loved playing with Molly. Poor Molly - they messed with her the whole trip!

Jack was so fun to see and play with. He's 10 months old now and is so much fun. He's at that great age of playing, crawling, and babbling.

Zoo Fun in the Hot Sun

A couple of weekends ago we took the boys to the zoo. It was Grayson's first time going and he had a great time. (he probably went as a baby but first "remember" trip) It was hot, brutally hot but fun. We ended the day at the water play part. They've added a bubbles/suds place which the boys loved. Surprisingly it was not crowded that morning so the boys could really enjoy. I've taken Davis on days where there were so many children in the water that he couldn't do much. The videos are from that day. Just this last week, we sent Davis to Zoo Camp. By far his favorite summer activity so far. He was in the Komodo Dragon group. Everyday he came home explaining some new adventure. He's now our zoo "expert"!!

Grayson (aka "Little Bit" aka "Me Too") Turns 3!

Grayson turned 3 on Saturday! He is big into anything Toy Story especially Buzz and Woody. We had a party at preschool on Thursday, and then headed to Mom and Dad's for the weekend. At preschool, he's in a class with 12 others his age (he was the last to turn 3). (Boy am I thankful that's not where I work!)

(So if you follow the blog, cake wrecks, then you'll laugh at this cake. Since I do look at cake wrecks, I noticed that Woody's lasso/rope looks like a string of poop. Oh well, at least the cake tasted good and probably I was the only one that thought it looked like poop!)

Summertime

Oh how I am enjoying the summer of a school teacher!! When I taught school before Grayson was born, I always picked up a summer job. We were having to pay for daycare through the summer to have a place the rest of the year so it just made sense. But now, Davis is school age so he's home for the summer which means I am too!! Woo-hoo! It really is crazy how little I've accomplished on my "summer" list. I've done lots of things with Davis - swim, beach, camden, mcwane center, zoo, movies, play, read (lots of reading) - but not really anything on my list! Grayson has done some of those things too, but he goes to preschool most days. He seems to prefer playing with his friends there, plus they do lots of fun summer things like splash day tomorrow. I did take just Grayson to play at chick fil a today, and then to the book store for some good mommy time.

School is finishing up this week and we're looking forward to the summer!! In just a few days, we'll all head to the beach and I'm so excited! The boys are at such fun ages and I think they'll enjoy the beach even more than in the past. Although, they've both always loved it especially when Pop and G are there.

Later this summer, we have Bible school lined up for me to teach (3rd grade - should be interesting since I'm used to high schoolers!) and Davis to go. Davis will also do some fun camps throughout the summer. I have lots on my summer list which I know is pretty much laughable since time will pass quickly. I have a stack of books to read, computer training to complete, the basement to clean out, and much more.

Well, maybe now Bou gets his wife back and the boys get their mama back...(or something like that!).... I completed the work for my master's degree!!!!! I've turned in all the final projects for this semester and graduate on May 8.

My professors could come back between now and May 7 to ask for revisions but hopefully they won't. From my perspective, I'm done. Even if there are a few revisions, it couldn't be as bad as creating the projects and portfolio.

Big Boy Bed

Grayson moved to a big boy bed last night! We were a little concerned about the transition as he had not been climbing out of the crib. (When Davis was his age we knew we needed to make the transition when he started climbing out of the crib and showing up in our room.) Anyway, his new bed arrived yesterday so out with the crib and into the bed. He did great on night 1. He slept through the night without a peep. Hoping that continues!

Even though I have no new pictures to share, I figured an update was needed. At least the first thing you see won't still be Christmas! All is well with the Bous. Davis and Grayson are such precious boys to us and we are so grateful that God blessed us with them.

Davis is enjoying K5. He has asked if he will move to first grade after he turns 6 in April but I think he now understands that first grade is after summer. His class is heading to tour Golden Flake tomorrow which should be lots of fun for them. Davis has his first loose tooth. It's barely hanging on but still hasn't come out. He's quite excited about his loose tooth!

Grayson continues to enjoy preschool 2 at daycare. Bou takes him each day and evidently Grayson only needs Bou as a ride! Bou says that Grayson struts in and tells him "bye"! Grayson is also making huge progress in potty training. He goes to daycare each day in underwear and usually makes the whole day. It's been 2 weeks of underwear during the day!! (Davis was 3 years old before potty time so Grayson being 2 1/2 is a surprise.) We don't do so well on the weekends. We usually put him in a pull up since we're in and out running errands and he usually could care less about the potty.

We spent Christmas with Dad, Mom, Rob, Sara and Jackson in Carlowville. I know this picture isn't the greatest but I just love it! Davis and Grayson with cousin, Jackson, who is almost 12 weeks old. Poor Jack, he just got stuck b/t the others since we couldn't get Davis to hold him. Rob and Sara also brought their dog, Molly, but she didn't make this picture.

Isn't Jackson just the cutest! I so enjoyed holding him and loving on him. What fun to have a new little nephew! Over the weekend as Davis and Grayson played with Pop (my dad) outside, I thought, "before long Jackson will be right in the middle too". Instead of Dad making a couple of tractor ride trips, it will be three. Oh the fun to come!

Cooking with Davis

Cooking with Davis - So, this morning I got geared up to cook with Davis. He loves to be in the kitchen so today, with no rush, we made some Christmas treats. First, we made Toffee Bars. They taste yummy but keep falling apart. Oh well - we had fun making them!

After toffee bars, we made sugar cookies. So, we do the easy way. We took sugar cookie dough, rolled it out, cut Christmas shapes and baked. After they were done and cooled, we used pre-made icing and sprinkles to decorate. (oh and don't you love Davis' outfit! He's been in his soldier costume all day, even out running errands!)

Nothing grand, nothing pretty but we definitely had fun. I even (shockingly) had patience, most of the time!

So I figured out how to give our blog a quick new look. Yeah! I'll also add some more recent pictures of the boys.

We're excited about Christmas this week! This year has been different with Davis now 5, he wants to be much more involved. He helped with decorating the tree (Grayson, on the other hand, broke two ornaments) and has helped with wrapping gifts.

It's so fun to be back teaching and have two weeks off with Davis and Grayson. Tomorrow Grayson has daycare so Davis and I are planning to make sugar cookies in Christmas designs. I know, I guess I should keep Grayson at home to help, but thought I'd try with just Davis and see how it works. I'm not a very patient cook especially with my own children. Kinda funny that I have lots of patience with high schoolers but when in comes to my own toddlers, I run out quickly!

Our Christmas plans have us spending Wednesday with Bou's family. Then, we'll head to Carlowville for a few days. (It will certainly be hard to be at Mama Hon's house for Christmas but no Mama Hon.) On a happier note, Christmas will be even more family fun as Davis is 5 and Grayson is 2 and Rob & Sara have their 2 1/2 month old, Jackson and their dog, Molly. I'm so thankful that we can all be together with Mom and Dad for a few days.

Pumpkin Patch

Last Sunday afternoon, we headed out to the pumpkin patch.

We met the Averettes in Gardendale for lunch and then headed up to the pumpkin patch in Hayden. Here's Davis with Miller Caroline on the hay ride to the pumpkins. After picking out pumpkins, Davis asked to jump on the Euro Bungee. Davis never wants to do something like that so I said sure. I really thought he'd back out. But to my surprise, he did it!

Chateau Elan

For Fall Break, Bou dropped the kiddos off with grandparents and we headed to Chateau Elan. Bou planned the trip which included a spa visit for me and a culinary studio cooking class. We had a great get-a-way!

Cooking class - The cuisine was Thai cooking. We made satay chicken with cucumber sauce, sea scallops in a curry sauce and coconut pudding.

Croup Toddler

Home today with a cranky Grayson. He has croup. He seemed to feel ok most of day in spite of the "barking" cough but by this afternoon he had fever and just didn't feel well. It is a strange cough but Bou and I recognized it since Davis has had croup twice in the past. Only difference with Grayson is that since he has asthma, the dr went ahead and put him on steroids (which can be quite interesting in dealing with little bit).

Grayson turned 2 on July 17! We now have a 5 yr old and 2 yr old. Hard to believe! Grayson's vocabulary has exploded over the past few weeks. He went from just a few words to making sentences. His favorite word is still "no" and he continues to frequent time out. We do laugh at the differences in the boys. We remember Davis having a harder time b/t 18 and 24 months b/c of a lack of vocab but he was never really a "terrible two". Grayson, on the other hand, can be quite the opposite! Hopefully it won't last long. We are so blessed to have these precious boys!

We celebrated Grayson's birthday in Carlowville with Mom and Dad. (It was hard to be at Mama Hon's house to celebrate having just lost her in May. The grieving process, at least for me, may take a while. I miss her so much.) We did have a great weekend. Mom and Dad have joined the community pool so we went swimming twice on Saturday. Davis is finally getting better with swimming. We are in the middle of a set of lessons and he's doing better. For some reason he is just terrified of the water. We have made significant progress this summer and see hope that he might actually learn to swim.

I'll try to add some more pictures and maybe videos if I can get them to load. Overall we are all doing well. I am in the process of transitioning out of my current job (bookkeeping) and returning to teaching in the fall. I am very excited! Lots to do to be prepared but excited. Davis is looking forward to starting K5 in the fall. Big step!

Since the time changed on Sunday and Davis' soccer games were done, we headed to the nearby park to play. The boys took their naps an hour earlier and were of course up early with plenty of time to play.

Saturday at Samford

Today was homecoming at Samford. We knew they were planning to have a hot air balloon on the quad this morning. Davis and Bou actually got to go up in the balloon! The burner was a little loud for Davis who isn't much for loud noises. It was fun to be back up at Samford and let the boys run around some. They also got to give Spike (the mascot) a high five.

Update

Grayson is walking!!! He start walking last night. He's not great at it yet, and he still prefers crawling. He gets so tickled with himself. He'll walk a few steps and just start giggling. It's really cute!

We finally have some progress on helping Davis' eyes. We've always thought Davis has seasonal allergies. Up until this year, he would take Zyrtec and Patanol some. Well, this year came and he has had a terrible time. His excema has been worse, and his eyes are almost continually red, burning, itching. The skin around them will be swollen and look like excema. We've been to an allergist and for about 7 months he's been on 5 prescription medications daily. We put off allergy testing for shots until this summer hoping he would be better (he had to be off all antihistamines for 5 days prior to testing). He was tested on Monday and is allergic to dogs, cats, horses, dust mites and mold. The strange thing is that no grasses or trees showed up. His allergist really expected them to since his eyes are so bad. Those tests were done with the skin pricks. We are still waiting on results of the blood test for allergies.

We have been feeling so frustrated that we cannot get Davis relief. Our pediatrician suggested we also see a pediatric eye doctor. I took Davis today and good news. Davis has been diagnosed with Keratits Phlyctenular and Blepharitis. According to his doctor, this is very treatable. Davis has been given wipes to clean his eye lids and antibotic/steroid eye drops to use for 2 weeks. We'll then go back for a follow up.

It may be that allergies are still part of the problem so we may go the allergy shot route too, but I am so thankful to know that we're on the track to getting his eyes well. His eye doctor did remind me that we don't know yet if this is a solution until we do this treatment and return for follow up. (By the way, his vision is excellent.)

Grayson Meets Great Grandmother Isabel

On Saturday, June 21, Grayson meet his great grandmother on my mom's side for the first time. (Yes, I know we should have gone to Atlanta much sooner.)These pictures were taken at Aunt Anne's house. She very kindly had us all for lunch on Saturday. After being there for awhile, we noticed Davis' eyes were swelling up. He had an allergic reaction to their dog (we assume). Davis has severe allergies but we didn't know that dogs were included. (He'll be officially tested by the allergist in August.) Thankfully, benadryl worked, and we avoided a doctor's visit out of state.

We spent the weekend at Rob and Sara's house. We loved seeing their precious first home. Davis enjoyed playing "tag, your it" with Rob. It was great to spend time with them and we hope to get back soon.

Family Beach Trip

We just returned from several days at the beach. For many years, we have enjoyed the beach with my family around the Memorial Day holiday. This was Grayson's second trip to Orange Beach. We took him last year at 6 weeks old but this time he got to sit on the beach and enjoy the pool. Davis loves the beach. He runs and runs and runs up and down the beach. Mom and Dad came along with Uncle Rob (who Davis adores; we missed Aunt Sara bunches).

Bou and I are very thankful to be home and are hoping and praying that Grayson will sleep better in his bed. This "vacation" was exhausting for us since Grayson was up most of the night every night.

The Boys

Yes, you are all correct (comments and emails). Davis is on the right and Grayson is on the left. Davis definitely had more Asian eyes and a block head. Grayson's eyes are more round and so is his face. It will be fun to see how Grayson changes over the years. To me, Davis now looks very different then as an infant.

Bou and I always comment on the boys very different personalities. Davis never meets a stranger and is very outgoing in most situations. Grayson, on the other hand, is usually terrified of strangers and shy. I'm excited to see how Grayson's personality changes as he grows up. One thing's for sure, Grayson is just as curious as Davis has always been. Grayson is crawling and pulling up and into everything. He'll spot the DVD player or a remote, giggle and take off to attack them!

On a side note, one of my new favorite shows is "Jon and Kate plus 8". I enjoy the show for lots of reasons but it's really fun to see another example of the dominate Asian genes. Jon is Korean and Kate is American. All 8 of their children have the Asian features. Anyway, the show's on TLC if you're interested. Lots of little "amerasians"!

Fun at the Zoo

Today Jon Edward and Hannah had their birthday party at the zoo. The boys had a great time! Davis got to touch a turtle and a baby alligator. Then, everyone had cake and ice cream followed by a ride on the merry-go-round and then a trip on the train. After all that, we headed for water play. Lots of fun! Grayson was great in the stroller and I fed him lunch while Davis played in the water. (Bou was playing golf. ) What a great place to have party!

Preschool Program

Monday night was Davis' preschool program. All the boys in his class had to wear a black shirt since they were singing about spiders. The girls were in red since they sang about lady bugs. The preschool 2 class was bumble bees. The pre-K class "graduated" so they got certificates after they sang. The ballet classes also performed. There was a precious little girl, I think in preschool 2 that definitely stole the show! She sang at the top of her lungs and was adorable. I wish we had filmed it!

Beach Trip

We traveled to the beach with the Gidley's for a few days. Jon Edward, Hannah, and Davis play so well together. Thankfully, Mom and Dad offered to keep Grayson for the weekend. That was a great treat! Grayson is awful in the car and so 1/2 distance for him was nice. Plus, we got great time with just Davis. Davis loves the ocean. It was freezing but he would still sit in it and play.

Davis' Birthday

Davis had a second birthday celebration at home. Mom and Dad came up to celebrate. As you will see below part of Davis' gifts were a pirate costume and an Auburn football costume. Once again, he loves Transformers. Edgar's bakery designed the cake below and it was yummy. Davis was thrilled that Pop and "G" came to celebrate. (He'd rather live with them than us!!)

Bou's Parents Became US Citizens

We are so excited to learn that Bou's parents became US Citizens. It was quite the surprise to us (especially Bou). Bou never thought they would go through the process to become citizens. His parents live in Selma and an article was in the local paper about them.

Grayson surgery update

Grayson's surgery went well. We're back at the house now and he's just fallen asleep. We're hoping for a nice long nap so that we can also take a nap. They only put tubes in. His adenoids were not large enough to need to come out. Mom and Dad are here to help with Davis. I think Davis will be going to Camden with them until Saturday which will be a good break for us and him!

Grayson update

Grayson has pink eye so no church for him today. I thought I would add some more recent pictures of him. He got his first tooth 2 weeks ago and looks so funny with just one tooth. I took him to the pediatric ENT last week and he's set for surgery on March 12. He'll have tubes put in both ears and possible have his adenoids out. They will decide about the adenoids during surgery. The tubes were wonderful help for Davis so we hope that will also be the case with Grayson.

Finally, pictures of Grayson in the bath tub and happy! Until I learned another way, Grayson would always scream during his bath. But, now I put him in the tub first and then add water. He's so much happier that way! Don't put him in a tub of water - disaster! He likes the water poured over him. You'd think it would be so much colder that way but it works for him.

Davis loves being a big brother. My guess is that will change once Grayson wants to play with Davis' things. But for now, we love watching Davis love on Grayson.

Halloween

This morning Davis went to daycare as a farmer since that's what daycare requested for the older children. Grayson went in his monkey costume. After school, we went trick-or-treating in the neighborhood and then to the church for the fall festival. Davis dressed up as a fire fighter, and Grayson was still in his monkey outfit.

Grayson was baptized on Sunday, October 14 at Covenant. Mom and Dad came up.

Davis' First Auburn Game

Davis experienced his first Auburn game in October with Pop and Bou. They traveled to Auburn for the Vandy game.
